Where is the gallbladder located in the body? Many people do not even know where the gallbladder exactly is. Gallbladder is located near the liver; to be more precise, a little behind the liver.

This organ is very important for a human body, especially when it comes to digestion process. Its role is to store bile in the human body. The bile that forms inside a human organism goes to small intestine through ducts and then it ends up in the gallbladder. After a meal (even a small one), the bile secretion starts and it is used in digestion process. The fats from foods release CCK (cholecystokinin). Thanks to this hormone, the gallbladder passes the bile to the small intestine where the fats are dissolved. The bile is important for vitamins absorption but it also has many other important roles.

Gallbladder is located on the right side of ribs. This is exactly where people with gallbladder problems feel the pain. Gallbladder pain is very severe and problems caused by gallbladder disease can be very difficult. Sometimes people have to undergo a gallbladder surgery to solve the gallbladder problem.

Gallstones are more common in people who are obese and/or older than forty. Women have more chances to experience this problem. Sometimes stone gets out of the body spontaneously. But in case it stays inside the body, a patient will probably be advised to remove the stones surgically. If there are other complications with gallbladder, one can even be advised to remove the gallbladder itself.
